Welcome to printedelectronics.net

Welcome to the web site dedicated to my research project on capturing value from research networks.
What is this research about?
This research examines how collaborative research networks generate value for individuals, organisations and governments. It focuses on research networks to develop new technologies and applications in printed and plastic electronics.
New products and processing techniques in plastic electronics offer significant market opportunities for companies and national economies alike.
The creation of effective research networks and collaborative partnerships will be part of the critical path to success in this emerging industry. Collaborative partnerships are only undertaken where they are expected to generate value for their participants. This project examines how that value is enhanced through research networks, intermediaries and public subsidies.
This project will:
- analyse research networks in plastic electronics, identifying potential obstacles to innovation arising from fragmentation across technical, functional or organisational boundaries
- identify interpersonal and organisational factors that affect the value of undertaking a collaboration across these boundaries
- examine the conditions under which subsidies and intermediaries increase the value of undertaking collaborative research
The practical impact of these activities will be to:
- help engineers and scientists identify whom to collaborate with and the best modes for research partnerships
- give R&D managers insights into the costs and benefits of engaging in collaborative R&D projects and help them identify targeted improvements in the quality and scope of their employees' networks
- offer university managers ideas about incentives for academics to be involved in collaborative R&D projects
- help intermediary and government organisations identify how to target support for research networks and generate additional business value through funded collaborative activities
